How does the program work?
Employees or family members simply call into the designated 800 access number and ask to speak with a counselor.  Confidential, personal assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
 
How will employees know about the program?
HMSA provides ongoing promotional materials to inform the employees of the program.  We can also provide sample introductory letters to introduce the program to the employees.
 
Are family members eligible?
Yes, immediate family members residing in the same household are eligible.  Domestic partners, life partners and fiancées are eligible if residing in the same household.
 
What will the program cost employees?
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an employer paid benefit for their employees.  This is no cost incurred for employees if treatment remains within the EAP.  If an outside provider is needed, the EAP counselor will recommend carefully selected resources.  Health insurance and other financial factors will be considered to help ensure that needed services are affordable.
 
Is the program confidential?
Yes, the request for assistance and any information that may be shared is between you and your counselor.  We are bound by HIPAA regulation, the information including your name will not be shared with anyone without your written permission.
 
How will I know if employees are using the program?
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is totally confidential on an individual basis, utilization reports are provided to summarize activity for the group.
