Established in 1980, Health Management Systems of America has been providing high quality mental and behavioral healthcare services for employers in both the public and private sectors. The company began by designing and implementing a variety of Behavioral Healthcare Services for insurance organizations and for private industry. These programs included Central Diagnostic and Referral (CDR) services, pretreatment authorization, utilization review, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) for short-term problem resolution, quality assurance activities, automated systems development, and supervisory, employee and union training, and promotion of the program(s). All assessments and short-term clinical services are provided by licensed professionals, who minimally possess a Masters' Degree in Social Work or have a Ph.D. in Psychology, and have at least three years of post-graduate experience.
HMSA is a privately held, independent corporation. In fact, HMSA is the only independent and privately held national Behavioral Healthcare company! That means that we're not owned by nor affiliated with any treatment company, pharmaceutical company, insurance company, national hospital corporation or payroll processing company. With HMSA, there is no conflict of interest. (No one is tapping our clinical staff on the shoulder to push mental health drugs, sell insurance policies or payroll services, or fill inpatient/outpatient treatment program slots. With HMSA, you don't have the added burden of safeguarding against self-referral or safeguarding against the inappropriate activation of healthcare benefits.
